Hello,

What colours will show the colours of Neons up best? Would a blacklight do it? Or is that not the done thing in the fish world?

They always seem much brighter and in your face in LFS'

not to sure about the black light
i used to use Triton and beauty light tubes
a black light would work to show there colours
off but i don't know whether it is harmful to fish

I prefer cool daylight or anything with a blue tinge (not actually blue) for Neons.. at the moment Philips 865 is my staple at the moment, just bought some 3ft tubes for about £1 each.

i use a juwel tropical bulb in my neon tank. any 'tropical' or 'colour' bulb will do - its light range usually enhances reds and greens or reds and blues. a black background works really well, shows off the plants and fish colours beautifully. a lot of people say black sand too, but i think pale sand with black background is perfect :good:

ETA do NOT use a blacklight. it'll almost blind the fish. there is a certain blue light you can use, cant remember the name of it, it was in my tanks light fitting when i got it, but i found it didnt really enhance the neons colours, it just looked nice!

Do you mean actinic (marine) bulbs? Look pretty, but not that great for plants (IME) and are great for algae!

or you could try blue moon

Ok,

Thanks for the help.

I have the standard bulbs and LEDs used in the Interpet River reef 94ltr atm.

I have black gravel but the blue background is really washing the neons out with the blue LED moonlight I think.

Hoping to do something with the background to darken it up whether that be with a 3d Background or custom slate build.

I love plain black backgrounds, myself :)
