I recently added some more neon tetras to my tank to accompany the existing 3 I had in the tank. Now when I got these guys, (there were 10 of them) 3 died coz they got sucked up my filter. They were the smallest of the lot measuring about 1cm. Now it's been at least a month and the smallest neon is only 1.5cm!

my original neon tetras are at max size, the biggest looks like a whopping 6 cms. so the other tetras average around 3 cms.

Can anyone tell me how long it will take them to reach this size? (Also I heard that neons can live for some 10 years....is this true?)

It usually takes 6-8 months for them to reach full size. Neons do have a fiarly long life span not sure if its ten years but it is close to that cause i have 5 that have been with me for over 7 years. HTH :)

Maybe it's the jumbo neon variety. I got the shock of my life when I saw the latest lot of Neon tetras at my lfs. They are huge!

oopsie -

sorry friends, I was doing 'guess' timates on the size, after reading the post from clutterydrawer, I freaked out and decided to check out the size of the biggie with me being infront of the tank with a ruler, it's actually closer to 4cms. :*)

sorry for being a dingbat...next time i'll sit myself next to the tank while writing my post. :*) :*) :*) :X

again sorry if I raised a couple of eyebrows.

huge neons? would loooove to see that!

Man if there were actually about two and a half inches. That would be amazing! I would actually pay good money for a neon that size(imagen if they got to bo about 6". That would be awsome. Then I would
pay good money
