Hi,
I got 5 neons today and i tried feeding them, the guppies got all of the food first, what can i do.
But i have a couple of plants in the background, do you think that the neons would be eating the plants/any algae(sp) instead.
cheerz.

Hi Jonh, I have the same problem as my platys(top feeders) are greedy and keep the neons from getting the food. What I did was crush the flaked food into really small bits. That way the bigger fish don't have command over the food. Its smaller so it sinks quicker to where my neons are(bottom 3rd of tank). Yes they will nibble the algae etc but they do need feeding themselves as the algae etc won't be enough. They will also take bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia. Hope this helps a little. Good luck. Cheerz guys,

I / My brother will try that now, god damn guppies always causing problems, if not we will try some of that stuff handsomeboy mentioned about.

Just a lil update

We now only have 4 neons to care for after we lost one sometime last night, we aint sure if the poor thing died of stress from being brought, ammionia levels of 1 ppm in a 30l tank or from being trapped behind the filter where we found. Looks like we need to get a few more to bump up the shoal now then.

Newly introduced fish are often at a disadvantage at feeding time. Your neons should eventually settle in and be able to compete with the guppies for food, they just need some time. If you are feeding flake, put a small amount into the filter flow. That will quickly spread it through the tank and give everyone a fair chance at it.
