Well, now I've got it.

I want to know where the disease originates from. Does it develop in the aquarium or do they have it before they're caught?

Is protozoin (or zoan?) available in the U.S. (Petsmart)? What are the chances that it'll keep the disease from spreading to my danios and black widows?

I don't think it is. One's lost almost all the red and one's losing the red. The latter is also swimming partially vertical.

Sure sounds like the real thing. It is quick to spread so if you can isolate the fish you may be able to treat if its early enough. This is a real killer and the parasite is very difficult to kill so isolation or euthanization are the only options. Of course isolation would be best just in case the fish do respond to meds. Good luck with this tempestuousfury and keep us posted.

Well, I'll see what I can do tonight. I probably won't be able to get the meds today, so I'll have to kill the two. I can't quarantine them, not that it would matter.

Neon Tetra disease is very contadious, And speaking from experience, You have to isolate the sick fish straight away and euthanise is needed. A fish can have the disease for a while before showing symtoms, There is some medication available but it is widely known that there is no cure. And the disease can sometimes spread to other fish.

I know there's no cure. :/ Unfortunately I can't quarantine them, not that it would help.

I ended up killing one of them this morning. It was having a hard time staying in place--it kept trying to propel itself but didn't move. Also lost a great deal of color.

So now, unfortunately, I can't have a tank full of neons. :/
