Alright so i origionally had 4 neon tetras but three of them were wiped out by columnaris about a month ago. my tank is fine now, and i feel terrible keeping just one lonely neon...

do i get a few more? if so the only place near to me is walmart and they all looked a bit washed out and stresses...should i buy them eventhough they are smaller than my surviving neon and will they become unstressed? or do i just keep the lone neon?

my honey gourami is slightly agressive so he might stress them more..ill have to temporarily move him

They should ideally be in a shoal (6+) - but if the only ones near you are looking 'washed out' then it might not be worth it - Neons are now generally weak due to so much breeding - although if you find a good supplier, they will have a better chance at adapting to new Conditions as they will be naturally stronger.........

> It's good to have the water slightly acidic, with a bit of Bogwood / 'Mopani' Wood and maybe add some 'Blackwater extract' into the water to help....

(I have always found that Gourami's only chase other similar-looking fish - not usually small Tetras, but yours might be diifferent....?)

Anyway, I Hope that you find some decent Neon's nearby, or perhaps get some 'hardier' Tetras to give your surving Neon some Company. (Red Eye, Glowlight, Black-Neon, Silver-Tip, Penguin....)

most of the other tetras at walmart look a bit more healthy, but they are larger species by a little and i didnt know that would help the neon haha...

yea my honey gourami for some reason attacked the neons i tried to put in the tank last time...with them being already weakened...it didnt take much for them to die.

Neons will look washed out if not in good conditions! I would never assume walmart as having good conditions! If the ph, amonia nitrite nitrate and Temputrature arent good then expect teh fish to be really stressed out and look washed out!

The lone tetra wont do so well he needs some buddies asap! However the good thing about neons is they seem to be quite happy schooling with similar fish! Mine seem to love racing / swimming with whiteclouds and my pristella tetras!

I would buy from wall mart at your own risk but im sure if you have ideal tank conditions they would live and color up in time! I just assume walmart is not up to the standards of even a LFS when it comes to upkeeping there aquarium section!

Ok well i will probaby get a different species of tetra then just to be on the safe side, I was concerned though that different tetras will nip at my guppies fins..are there any compatable tetras that arent notorious for fin-nipping?

thanks for the help!

Ok so i got 2 glowlights and another neon...they have all survived the night which is good!!

will try..i always seem to get blurs though, especially of the guppy babies...

Ive got a picture of my little school but for some reason it wont leet me post it

The picture is probably too large for the site to hots. I host mine on photobucket. However you can try opening the photo in windows pain and the resize it to 50% height and width and save it as xx pic resized. then try hosting that! Might just be the pics orig size is too large :)
