I have noticed that one of my Neon Tetras has what look like fangs coming from the top of its mouth, it is eating fine and is swimming fine, and is in great health.

Is this just a birth defect?

hi
any chance of getting a photo?? might help. or do the fangs look fuzzy or any other paling/white patches around its mouth?? a tiny possibility could be mouth fungus (columnaris flexibacter - actually a bacterial infection) or are the fangs identical on both sides?? size position etc???
sorry cant be more helpful need a bit more info

they seem to be the same as the body, have tried to get a picture but finding it hard to get a good one. have put some milafix in the tank, if you look at the fish face on the left had side is a bit longer then the right and they past over the lower jaw. I have been keeping a eye on him and he really does seem fine. Just want to make sure, as i don't want him to suffer.

Will try to get a better picture

Just put him in the qurrantine tank, so i could get a better picture. And its not part of his body, it is cotton wool like. I hae put some metafix in with him.

Is there anything else i can do?

These are the best pictures i can get of him, doubt they will be any help

Its hard to tell from the pic, are the "fangs" white or fluffy looking at all?

yes they are, i've got him in a qurrantine tank now and i've put some metafix in.

Its most likely mouth rot then, its basically columnaris of the mouth. Lots of small water changes and an anti external bacterial and fungal med is needed to treat it- melafix will probably be too weak to treat it, so you'll need something stronger.

I will go and get something stronger then, thank you so much for your help :) :good:
