I am really puzzled on this ... I am looking for any ideas on what could be happening.

I have a 14 gal tank. I had a little Emerald Corey in it, and got 5 Neon’s. All was going well, the water was staying stable, so I got 2 more neon’s for a total of 7, after a day or two I noticed only 6 neon’s. I looked everywhere in the tank, no sign of the 7th neon. I got 1 neon to add to the tank to give me 7 again. Yesterday I saw 7 swimming and eating. Today, again I only noticed 6 swimming around. Tonight at feeding time I still only saw 6. I looked in the tank again. In all the hiding places and there is no sign of the 7th neon. It's like they just disappeared. No signs of them on the floor. I am really stumped as to what could have happened to the disappearing neon’s.

have you searched every where, i mean everywhere. Inside the filter around the tank under decorations at the base of plants?

There is defiantly no full fish in the tank. I have looked under the rocks, around the plants. It's not in the filter. I have looked around the outside of the tank, on the floor. Just no sign of them. If there are pieces left of the fish still in the tank, they are hidden really well.

Fish will pick off other dead fish pretty quick. Often then the body gets sucked in the filter but on a fish the size of a Neon there is often little left to find :/

;)

I've had the same problem. With a clown loach. I have a funny feeling the tiger barbs enjoyed his loss.

i lost 1 of my neons once i looked every where took most every thing out but still couldnt find it then when i had just given up i saw something shiny behind my filter :D it was my neon it had somehow got itself lodged between the filter and glass the space was so small i didnt think an ant could fit there so i pulld the filter off and the fish was fine it had been there for at least 5 mins.

i say keep loking:p

My cousin had this disappearing neon problem. I solved it by looking behind the backing of her tank. They had somehow managed to wedge themselves behind the backing cardboard.

I too have lost neon's in the ways described by the people in this post. the aquaclear filter inlets suck up the smaller neons pretty well.

just look about, you may find it.

Still no signs of the 2 Neons that have disappeared. My best guess is they died then got eaten. Just would have thought I would have seen some part of it still laying around.

Thanks for all the imput :)
