Ugh what am I doing wrong !! My neon tetras do not swim around the tank they just huddle together in one corner on the bottom of the tank. I've changed the water tested it . Plenty of hiding spaces and still nothing they just hang in that corner. I'm out of ideas help .

How big is your tank and how many do you have. Also what is your ph ammonia nitrite nitrate and water temperature.

+1 but would add, what other inhabitants are in with them and how long has the tank been up and how long have they been in there?

Right forgot about those 3 very important questions. They could play a major role as well with why they're doing that.

The tank is running for about 2 months its a 10 g with 11 neons and a betta 7.0 ph they have been in there from start fish cycled All water reading clear nitrites and safe zone nitrates.

The way you've expressed your water parameters suggests you're using a test strip, is that right? If so they're not adequate to really tell you whether the water quality is good enough and you really need a liquid test kit. If you do have a liquid test kit what are the actual readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate?

Other than that it is possible they are being harassed by the betta. This could happen at night when you don't see it but they will stay subdued during the day because they're stressed.

Do you add anything other than dechlorinator to your tank?

What is the tank temperature?

How did you cycle the tank?

How did you cycle the tank?

He stated he done a fish in cycle. Which after two months of daily water changes and parameter checking (with liquid test kit I hope) he should be cycled (fingers crossed).

From my personal experiance, I had cardinal tetras when I first started with a fish in cycle and they loved my rock which acts as a cave with multiple holes. It has only been the past week or two that they have came out of there shell and roaming the full tank.

The questions that have been asked are also important but I would ask what is the tank scaping like? Heavy plated or hard scaped? Could explain why they huddle in a corner if it is the only corner with plants or decorations.

Ding ding ding, yep. I bet he doesn't have any good hiding places for them. That "huddled in the corner" sure makes it sound that way. I'm also wondering how that betta feels about their coloration.

He's stated he has plenty of hiding place for them. ^

Hmm true. Maybe all the hiding areas are in one corner? Was just a point of interest. :shout:

Would be good to have some water parameter figures and a picture of the tank. I think that would be helpful in order to analyse

Yeah true, neons hardly sit in caves all day, the more plants the more cover for them, they feel more safe.

Ok picture will be posted.in a few I think there's tons of hiding spots

my tank ..

Just out of curiousity, what happens if you use something to cover half the tank lengthways, that the bright looking light cannot penetrate? My hunch is they do not like that lighting intensity and would benefit long term by adding some floating plants to diffuse things somewhat.
