Hi guys,

I bought a white Condy nem with purple tips. Sometimes some of the nems tentacles turn a browny colour. Most of it has a brown tinge all over. I have been feeding it mussle weekly. Any ideas as to why its changing colour?

A healthy Anemone should be coloured - its a good sign! Aneomone's that are white have expelled their zooxanthelae, which is bad! They can recover and when they do they gain more colour. Your anemone should be getting healthy again because its happy in your tank and being fed!

Nothing to worry about!

Ok thanks, it was just a nice crisp white colour in the shop and now its just a browny colour. Do you know of any nems that stay white?

I don't know of any that do, someone might be able to give you one but most are coloured. I take its not wandering or anything else about its behaviour has changed? i guess you'd have mentioned if it had, but just making sure.

As long as its feeding still, not wandering and appears happy other than the colour it should be fine. The only anemone which comes close to white are tan malu anemones but even these can become quite dark. (malu's are very hard to keep though, and also they come in pure white but this is because they're bleached and really not in great shape!!)

As Ben said post a picture so we can see but sounds fine to me!! My anemones have all changed colour slightly and some drasticly!! i had a bright purple bubble tip which is now brown with white tips. ;)

It looks normal to me. :) Its a good sign if you ask me, you should be happy with yourself, most anemones are difficult to make happy. What did it look like before?

That is a lovely pair of clowns, and anemone - magnificant! Yeh i really think that your anemone is just healthy and getting its natural colour back!

;) :D

Ok thanks everyone, it appears all is as should be... Just a bit dissapointed its not looking nice and white and looks abit rusty looking now ;(

I know but it's rare that anemones or coral's are genuinely White. There is, as with every rule, exceptions but you'll struggle to find one!! Your anemone still looks great though, and you genuinely should be thrilled your anemone is colouring up. It looks pink to me, it might colour up more and be a really cool pink colour!!
