Hey,

this prob a real stupid question.

Went to get some additional LR today and when i came home started scaping away and i picked up one piece of my new LR and i managed to get needles into my fingers and then when i moved it again i felt another slight prick and had more?

Any ideas?

Dont think it would be a urchin as i held the rock in two places... and when i looked at my finger and thumb after there was needle like 'items' in them and i had to pull them out with tweezers...

Did you see what you touched?
Sounds like a bristle worm got you.

No, this was my initial reaction.. but the rock was clear and the needles in my thumb were fine and extremely hard to see with the eye.

The only thing noticeable on the rock is a cocoon like matter but that is in the centre of the rock i handled it at either end and had that feeling and needles in my fingers from both ends?... Its really odd, as with all the research ive done ive not come across anything like this?

Just My Luck LOL!

How can you be sure it wasn't a bristle worm? Their bristles are just like that. Clear and very thin and hard to see.

I cant be sure, but as i say there was nothing on the rock when i picked it up? and i would expect to have seen it... but again i may be wrong...

Yeah they move realy fast when they want to been trying to catch a large one out my tank with tweezers for a few days but it hides in the rock I dont like them at all saw some huge huge black ones at LFS the other day I mean seriously huge creatures easy at least 18 inches with huge bristles on them around the mouths probably the scariest looking aquatic animal ever.

Peanut worms actually creep me out more. Found a 6" long and 1" thick one in the tank once... Never been the same since...

Ok thanks for the comments guys... will keep my eyes peeled for the evil lil creature!

Probably a bristle worm. Was it the same finger? Are you sure you didn't just have some bristles left in your finger. In the future, spread elmers over your finger, let it dry, then peel it off. Bristles come right out!

That's a great tip! I have also heard soaking your finger in vinegar dissolves the bristles.

OK thanks for the tips...

No it was the fore finger and the thumb he thumb on the first occasion i held it and the forefinger on the second time!

The comments are appreciated though! :)
