Needlefish

Actually, goldfish and guppies are one of the worst things to feed it.

Guppies would only be OK if you bred them yourself and then gut loaded them. Goldfish would be a really unhealthy food, not to mention very impractical  . See here.

What species are we talking about anyway, is it a halfbeak? Various frozen foods (bloodworm, krill ect.), and eventually flake if you want :good:.

Let this be proclaimed from the rooftops: the natural diet of needlefish in the wild is exclusively crustaceans. That's shrimps, crabs, crayfish, etc. So the "best" diet is just what Cane76 says, river shrimp. Failing that, small insects seem to work very well, though some people think the big black crickets aren't a good idea.

While they will eat small live fishes, it's doubtful that these are essential or even a terribly good idea in the long term. Many people have trained them to take frozen marine fishes (lancefish and whitebait) and these are much healthier as well as far cheaper.

Cheers, Neale

There are some really good frozen foods available, Ive found myself feeding more and more of these and less live shrimp, daphnie, bloodworm etc
