I have a shipment of snails that I got from Ebay coming in on Thursday or Friday. Thats all good and fine, but the problem is that its going to be about 40 degrees here. By the time I get home, the snails will have been sitting there for at least 3 hours. They would probably freeze to death wouldnt they? What should I do? Im considering leaving a styrofoam ice chest at the door, with a heat packet and a note asking the postman to place the box in the ice chest and activate the heat packet. Think that will work, or will the packet get too hot?

are you talking about a heat packet that is designed for the shipping of fish. if so it should be alright. otherwise, call to some of the lfs in your area and ask them if they have a heat pack used in the shipping of fish. also inquire of the shipper how they are going to pack the fish. they may have a heat pack included in the shipping. the cargo holds of the planes can get very cold during the winter months. if they are being flown, they may already be packed for the cold. also check with several of your close neighbors and ssee if someone will accept the shipment for you and keep it in their house til you get home. leave a note on the door for the postman.
