I have a small tank (<12 litres) that I would like to put cory fry in. Would it be ok to run a small filter in my main tank for a few days then place it in the small tank with main tank water and a heater (All I could do for light is place a desk lamp behind it) ? Then add cories? I would be grateful to hear views and experiences. Thanks. :)

12 liters hmmm :/ well im not sure but i think that the light should be ok. dpends on how many cories in there

the light seems in order and if there are not too many cories then it should be fine

I have about 50 cory fry about 6-7 week old. I get some dying every few days and this tank I want to put them in is alot bigger than where they are housed just now (suspended net over tank). THe tank is temporary til they get a bit bigger then I can give them to pet shop to rehome.

They are tiny though and they are kind of cramped in the net they are just now (roughly <500ml) so a 12 litre tank will be better. It's what I'm going to do anyway. I was just asking if what I was going to do was ok for setting up an instant tank.

You really should find a bigger tank though, once they begin to grow there is no way the tank you have will be big enough, even if some don't survive.

As long as you keep an eye on water quality to see if it's coping, you might have to maintain it twice a week, i would put a pair of tights over the filter to stop the fry geting into the filter.

Women stockings.

It's better than the net for now, but is there no way you can get a bigger tank at all?

Don't have room for a bigger tank I'm afraid. As I said this is just a temporary house for them until they get a little bigger to give to the pet shop. I really don't think I will have 50 for long as some croak, hopefully due to natural selection but I can always put some in my bigger tank. Just now they are bite sized.
