hi, i'm sovag from singapore. hv been a regular guest to ur wonderful forum ever since i got crazy over fish! i've got a 2 mth-old 55 gallon tank which consisted of the following --
2 x 3.5" black ghost knife
3 x 4" upside-down catfish
3 x 2" dwarf gouramis
1 x 3.5" rainbow shark
1 x 2" albino rainbow shark
3 x 1.5" hillstream loaches
everything was ok until last friday when i noticed 2 of my upside-down catfish had some patches of open skin on their body. their fins were all fine tho. all 3 of my hillstream loaches also had the same patches of open skin on their body. it's like someone juz sliced the skin off! ard the same time, my rainbow shark suffered the same fate - he also had a patch of open skin on one side of his body.
sadly, all my 3 loaches died from the 'wound' on sunday. meanwhile, my catfish appear to be healthy in spite of the unslightly blotches of white on their dark body. my rainbow shark seems active but i suspect he isn't well as his fins are kinda clamped near his body, not extended like usual.
1 of my BGKs died on sunday. he had frayed fins. does it mean he had fin rot? my 2nd BGK is alright. so are my albino rainbow shark & my 3 dwarf gouramis. all of them are doing great. in fact, my gouramis have such voracious appetite that my mum calls them piranhas & suspects them for attacking the victims!
my question is, how could the 'wound' on my hillstream loaches & upside-down catfish have come about? could they have been inflicted by an aggressive tankmate or were they a result of some kinda disease. btw, i never test my water but i do a 20% water change twice a week. thinking back, i think i might have put too much medication (the blue anti-ich solution) because i was trying to treat my BGK (the one which died) who initially had a few white spots on his body. & how do i treat the 'wounds' on my catfish & rainbow shark? will the skin heal soon?
wd appreciate it very much if anyone of u out there cd offer some advice.
thanx a million,
sovag
