First post here!

I've just started a 120 litre Juwel Rekord tank and bought a group of six Zebra Danios at the weekend to get it going. One of them is acting a bit strangely - but that's another thread. But one of the six is much larger, has muted stripes and a less pointed nose. Its fins are also shorter and it likes to hide under the plants in the tank a fair bit, but will shoal with the others from time to time. Is this the same breed as the others?

Here is a picture:

There are a couple more photos on my own (photography magazine) site forum:

I was wondering if this guy was some kind of half-breed or even something else?

Thanks,

Ian

it is a danio kyathit
checkout my website (see sig) for info on them

great pics, I appreciate how hard danios are to photograph.

Thanks Wolf. I looked at your site and wondered if it could be a Maegahalayensis? Anyway, whatever, I'm glad that we have probably worked out that it's not a Zebra like the others. Will it be OK with five Zebras, or will it be lonely? It's not getting hassled by the others at all, but it doesn't join in their antics as much.

all danionins mix well with eachother.
he may turn out to be the alpha fish as he is bigger than the ZDs
all this means is he will get to breed first
and yes they can and will interbreed.

The offspring are normally infertile with hybrids though
