A few months ago, my mom bought some tin foil barbs for her 55 gal tank. She bought 3 all together, one has passes, and the smaller of the two left was getting annoyed by the bigger one, so I have the bigger one now. I don't want to put him in my 46 gal community tank because I don't want to lose any, and there are some small fish in there. Right now he is in my 10 gal QT tank, which I know isn't big enough for him. I have a spare 20 gal tank that I will set up for him, but I know that's not big enough for him either. We can not take him back to where we got him, and Im not sure if any other lfs will take him. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for the help.

I think tinfoil barbs grow to be a foot long so I really don't know what you can do. Since I doubt you can get a tank large enough for them you probably should try to find someone or a store that is willing to take them.

Sorry freshwater but I don't know anything about tinfoil barbs. The reason I'm responding is to ask you about the mix in your big tank...specifically gouramis, angels, and a male betta all living together.

How long has this setup been working for you and how's it working out? I would love to add a betta to my tank but never thought it would work with the gouramis.

Thanks

Yes, keep checking the lfs, since you're giving the fish away for it's own good and not trying to sell it back, any independently owned store should be happy to take him. Chain owned stores usually won't, due to possible inventory problems(plus they just don't care).

Good luck! :D

Tinfoil barbs are another species that should be only available on special order, they can grow to 14" and like to be kept in shoals so 3 or more fish are needed meaning a minimum of a 100g tank.

As suggested keep trying fish stores to see if one will take BOTH of the tinfoil barbs off your hands, either that or buy a bigger tank so you can keep them and add a few more.

fanofish...

I was waiting to see how long it would take someone to comment on my collection...LOL

They get along great. I have always had gourami's and betta's together. The betta definately adds a "splash" of color. The only problem that I have noticed so far is that the betta took over my paradises hiding spot. But now all seems alright. I have had the betta in the tank for a little less then a week, but I have done it before so i wasn't cautious at all. I have had the angels in the tank for about 2 weeks, and the gourami's have been in there since I set the tank up. The angels stay too themselves.

Also I have never had an overly aggressice gourami. I guess maybe Ive just been lucky that way.
