Need Pleco Id

im hoping someone can identify this pleco for me,

I think its a GN but im not sure.

when i first saw it i thought BN but on looking closer the spots are more orange, could still be a BN but not a common one, there the only ones i know. could you get a side shot?

That's an L001 (Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus )
No other photos needed - Nowhere close to a bristlenose or Gold Nugget I'm afraid. Closer to a common.

me mate has one and we mesured it the other night while moving his tank to a different room and its just over 17 inches

17? are you sure its an L001 and not a sail fin (gibby) as they are the same family and look very similar. except the colours are reversed (L001: black body, gold spots - Gibby:Brown body - black spots)

I have one, he is about 10"

Well, if those pics are correct there's absolutely no way it's a gibby Studz.

I suspect the measuring's gone a bit wonky, although being related to gibbies it's not impossible for them to reach nearly that in total length. PC lists their standard length as 12", so add a couple on for the tail, and a rough estimate rather than a decent measurement, and it's an easy mistake to make. Very much doubt the measurements are correct.

Edited: Looking at the pis again, they're definitely not correct. It's in a tupperware tub. I can't see it being more than 5" long.

I think Studz meant he (himself) has a 10" L001 and he doesn't think they are able to reach 17" - hence why he wonders if dane261's mate doesn't in fact have a Gibby.

I may be wrong but that's what it seems Studz meant.

That plec is an L001, what I ment was his mates plec that they measured at 17" is not a L001.

ill put a pic up tomoz when i go up his it is a l001 plec and not a gibby/sailfin and it needs rehoming as its to big for his tank and his tank is 6ftx2ftx2ft if anybody is intrested in it pm me

how is it too big for that tank?? you could house a larger fish than that in a 6x2x2
