I have a little 2 gallon hex that I picked up from the thrift store for like 2 bucks. Currently, I have a dinner plate on top of it just so the fish doesn't jump out, but the thing has no lighting aside from the ambient room lighting. How could I cheaply light this thing and/or cover it?

For a cover that wasn't a dinner plate, I was thinking of getting some plastic window screen material and cutting that to fit the top, but that does nothing for the lighting :/

Here's a picture of the top, sans plate.

The thing is I can't do the table lamp method because there is already a table lamp on the table and no more room :( It's a normal table lamp though not one of those goose-neck lamps so it doesn't shine right into the tank.

I like the perspex idea, just need to find where they carry it

You might check around. In addition to lamps that sit directly on the desktop, there are lamps made to clamp to things to keep the desk clutter down. I have seen them clamped to an aquarium.

I clip on one might work, I'll have to look around. I hope they have a very small one somewhere :X

you can get a 9w clip on desklamp from ebay for £13 posted i had one but i destroyed it
