My bargain Gumtree tank came with a surprise: four unwanted fish that had been kept in poor conditions - filthy brown water, no water changes and filter broke down. One was a largish pleco, about 8in including tail. it's grey with black markings, not a BN as it has a pointed type snout. It's still stressed and hasn't raised its dorsal fin so I don't know what that looks like but the body and pectoral fins aren't spotted.I was told the plec is 8 years old so hopefullly won't grow any bigger. Could it be a stunted dwarf common plec or is it likely to be something more exotic? Can I keep it with my slightly larger L001 or will they fight?Don't have many options to house him, only other alternative is in goldfish tank.

sounds like a royal to me as they have a pointed nose sort of any way

and are greeny gray with black

if someone wants to get rid of a fish they will tell you anything, could be 1 year old for all you know, its pointless even guessing at what it could be without a picture, it could be anything, plecs, common and rare will all loose colour when not happy, most black plecs will go grey, commons and gibbiceps both go patchy and grey/brown when stressed. try and get some sort of picture if you want an answer,
Dave

Checked photos of common and royal plecs =neither looks right. The colour is grey like a Royal but it's not striped. It has reticulated markings sort of like a mackeral, black on grey, with a vague herringbone pattern on the sides. It's hiding at the back of the tank behind the filter so not easy to take photos.

Anyway, my second concern is -will it get on with my 9inch L001? Can they share a 4ft tank as I really have nowhere else to keep it except the goldfish tank where it is at the moment. Goldies will soon be moving to large outdoor tank when I'm sure the warmer weather is here to stay.
