Okay... my soon to be mother in law dragged What I think is a little 2.5 gallon out of the closet because she wanted to use the 'gravel' in it for an art project.
Needless to say, the gravel was old, smelled funky, and she decided not to. I asked for the tank, she gave it. I've thrown out the old gravel to get a look at the inside bottom of the tank, and I find not only dried out gunk (Algae/subtrate waste?) But also what appears to be rust. Thing is, the sides are glass and the bottom is some sort of plastic I'm thinking. It also has two lovely vertical cracks on the narrow sides. I have aquarium Sealant and I think I can fix it up but I wanted all your different opinions on the best way to clean it, since it has to be clean and dry before using the sealant.
