Hi everyone hope you can help!

I have a Juwel 180ltr tank with the standard Juwel lighting system. The lights have both stopped working.

I have changed the fuse twice, and the lights do come on, but then go off within a few minutes. I have checked the fuse
after removing it and it is still ok in my toaster - does this give anyone an idea of what might be wrong??

Also one of the lights is black at one end - does this mean it has blown? I was wondering that because one light is
blown it means you can't use both lights???

Thanks

Tom

If one light is blown the other will still work.

So unless they have both blown, there may be a problem in the unit itself, only problem is most of them are sealed units.

Not so with the Juwel lights. If one lamp goes, the unit doesn't work. Or at least they did on mine.

Always try the lamps first though as it could just be that there's a bad connection, or one is on its way out. If not, look at the unit itself.

First of all, I'd try letting it air and dry out if you can, as when taking mine apart, it had fixed itself just being allowed to air. So knowing what I know now, I'd drill some small holes on the top and close to the ends, then try and drain any water out.. then dry it out. If it still keeps going off after a short while, it will most likely be the ballast. Providing it is still in warranty, then you can get it replaced. If not, it's DIY time or buy a new one. There's a sticky at the top of the DIY section which covers this.

OK thanks for your help - 2 more questions.

As one end has gone black does that mean the light has blown?

Can I take out the blown light and just have one light on until I get a new one?

sounds like it's blown to me. i had a problem with tubes cracking from cold condensation dripping on a warm tube when i opened the hood in the morning. it happened twice within a month, so i bought a reflector.
if you want to run just one bulb it would be worth DIYing yourself a new ballast (if they're T5's) as replacement tubes for the lengths juwel make are ridiculously expensive, the same bulb in a more standard length will cost about £3. also think about your plants if you've got any, you might struggle to get enough light for them with just one bulb

Ok i had this exact problem with the lights on my rio 180, turned out the connectors had coroded. Hubby cleaned it off using some kind of gadget and they have worked fine for months now. :)
