hi everyone, i just moved my 4 male bettas into a 10G tank, with proper dividers of course. From left to right, let's say we have section A, B, C, and D.

Section A: red betta
Section B: white betta with heater
Section C: pink betta with heater
Section D: blue betta

now, there really sin't a problem with thier health, i just find that a) the red and pink seems to be constnatly flaring at the back of the tank..which i think they see as a reflection (i do have a background though), and B) the pink one is now missing fins and i have no idea how this could possibly happen.

I had the blue and red one in for hte first few days, adn one day i came downstiars, saw the blue one with his tail tattered :( i have NO clue what could have done this as there were no other fish/creatures in the tank with him. I pointed the blame to the filter and i'ts sunction thing so i put a soft cloth around hte filter to stop it.

and today, the pink one (which is in teh section with teh filter and the cloth), is missing some of his tailtoo. Actually it was more like he had holes in his tail, andi know htis isn't finrot becuase he was just fine before i went to eat dinner..cmae back and i found 2 bitesize holes in his tail.

He's been flaring at the blue one as they are right next toe ach other...but i dont' see how the blue could possible take a chunk out of the pink's tail with a divider...they are still flaring as we speak and i'm wondering if this is going to cuase them stress.... :X

sorry i realize i'ts been a long post :*)

whats in the tank with them? my big cichlids hurt themselves with ornaments...maybe their tails are getting caught

...nothing, i only have hte bettas in the tank with dividers...thats exactly wahts confusing me

oh you mean ornament wise...

umm lets see, all 4 sections have gravel (just regular gravel, nothing spiecal), and teh blue one has a flower pot..the pink one has nothing but the filter and gravel..

Hi cutecotton :)

I'm sorry to hear about the problem you are having.

I'll move your thread to the Betta and Gourami section so that you can get more attention from the people who know the most about bettas.

What are the dividers made out of? I ask because some dividers are made from plastic thaat has some very rough spots along the edges and this will tear a bettas fins very easily. How about the filter tube, any rough points along that?

i covered the filter tube with a soft cloth, cuz it did have some rough edges and was porbably what cuasd my blue's tail to become shattered.

As for the divider, it's made from plastci, like those plastic things you can gget from craft stores. Good point about the tail ripping there, my betta sorta scrapes himself while h's flaring at the other betta...though the hole's look a litlte too big to be cuased by ripping from the didiver... oh and the dividers are homemade.

that's what i was thinking...but it's really sorta strange becuase the holes are no more htan .5cm in dimension..i doubt my bettas mouth and stretch through that...

 i really dont' know what's going on wtih them, but it looks like the filter's the culprit bceuase i saw a litlte red dot on the filter...which i thought was fish flake food, until i look closely and teh color matched my betta's tail hole exactly, so i assumed that it was playring around the filter again :/ silly fish :( i'm afraid it'll develop into tail rot so i've already put in melafix (and is it just me or does that stuff really stink? )

sort of stink, maybe they nip at each other when they swim by..... i dunno im trying to think of all possibilities
