Hi Everyone,

I am totally new at having fish and I feel like an idiot. From reading this I believe my three female fish are pregnant, but I am not sure. I have a female mickey, a female golden platty and a silver guppy. I think there spots are dark, but I am not really clear on where to look. I was hoping to post some pics and see if anyone can confirm and possibly tell me how far along, but I am not sure how to do that yet. I think the silver guppy is going to be having her fry very soon, she is barely swimming around and staying at the bottom in the plants. My question is the males will not leave her alone and are constantly chasing her, is this bad for her? My kids really want me to try and save the babies, can anyone give me a heads up on what the best thing to do is?

Thank you so much,
Confused

Welcome to the forums. ^_^

Sorry, I'm not an expert in livebearers but I can hopefully help out a little bit...

To post pictures you'll need to have your pictures hosted from somewhere. There are several free websites that will host images for you like Imageshack.com or Photobucket.com . You can upload pictures there, and then link back to them here on the site.

I have heard that it's common for guppies to stay near the bottom when they are about to give birth. Since the males will not leave her alone you may want to find a way to separate her from them. You can try purchasing a "breeding box" or "breeding net" for this, although keep in mind that this may be somewhat stressful to the fish.

Generally if you keep female livebearers with males its best to have at least 2 females for every male. This is to prevent one female from being overly harassed by an "amorous" male. And yes this can be very stressful / unhealthy for them. Unfortunately the more females you have...the more babies you'll end up with! This is why it's usually best to keep only males unless you really want to breed them.

Thank you for the information I was finally able to get them to upload in the live breeders section
