I found this little guy at the LFs the other day, and I had no idea what it was. The name the LFs gave me turned out to be the name of a plant.

I even talked to a guy named Ron who works at the shop. He was stumped. Strange because he normally can give a thorough background on every fish in the shop, and tell me where they bought it from and how the fish has been doing. -_- He's good, trust me, which is why I normally really like this LFs.

Anyway, there we were, both stumped. I decided to buy it since it was the last one in the tank and healthy. I thought it would be better off in a tank with lots of other small tetras than back at the LFs being housed with otos.

Anyway, it's about 2 cm long, and it's body is covered with tiny bright silver/blue specks. The forehead and gill covers are very, very bright and seem to almost glow. There is a very thin neon blue stripe that traces down its body, and a black spot at the tail. Any help?

Maybe it's a mutant/albino form the glo-lite tetra that snuck in with the otos?

Could it be a glass tetra (Moenkhausia olegolepis)? If you go to Google Images and type in glass tetra, theres a picture thats quite similar to yours.

It's colour reminds me of "blueberry tetras" which are died, but the "neon" line suggests to me that it is a dyed glowlight. I wish I could se it's fins better. Have any other pics of it?

There are so many of these small characins. They normally show up in shipments of other fish. It is difficult to tell from the picture. The JellyBean Tetra is an African species and quite different. I would say it is probably a Hemigrammus or Hyphessobrycon species.

not these guys right? http://www.fish2u.com/bluetetra.html

I have 5 of these, they are not dyed, you can tell because the color is through the centre of the body like a glow light they are just regular blue tetra

In the right water and lighting they show better colors but otherwise will just look a bit blue around the gills with blue visable through the middle, otherwise they look like pure white neons and definately have a dark patch at the tail (which you can see in the piccies
