Can anybody help out there?

I have a large community tank which has been running smoothly for ages and then one day I noticed that the rams I have started show signs of Pop-eye. I have tried to treat these with Myxazin to no apparent change over five days. The local fish shop has recommended using a general fish tonic (Tetra Medica) which is in the tank at the moment. Still have to wait 4 more days to see the results, if any. I also have a troop of clown loaches and I have noticed some greying in patches on their skin surface. Water has been tested and all is ok, except the water is slightly hard. But has always been the case, as I live in a very hard water area.

Anyone have any ideas on whict is going on.

Tank stats? Size of tank, how many fish.amonia, nitrite and nitrate, ph readings please. Any new fish? Any otehr chmicals other than the ones you've stated?

The clown...? Does it look as though it's covered with a fine powder? And the popeye........it's usually a secondary infection when there's something else going on, we need to establsih what it is.

Tonic meds are no good you need a good bacterial med for the popeye.
The greyish white patches look like columnaris to me.

Agree with Wilder it's a bacterial infection.

The test strips are rubbish, your stats aren't reliable, an 8 month old tank should def have a nitrate reading, which I suspect is probably quite high. A tank as big as yours ideally needs a 25-30% water change weekly, although the stocking isn't too high so that's good. Sometimes new fish can intruduce infection into the tank, that's why it's always a good idea to quaratine. Do you have a spare tank you could put your sick fish in to treat them?

Not sure where you are, but you need a anti bacteria med and an API test kit to get proper stats.

Keep posting, let us know how you go.

what to do is from now on only do a 20% water change a month as you are doing it to often not giveing it anytime to bulid up nitrate

are you cleaning you filter sponges under the tap or from your aquarium water?
