I got this tinfoil barb that has white crap all over his head and on his eyes. It's cloudy white in coloration so I think it's fungal. He also has what I think is ick on his body. I'm battling a bad case of ick in several tanks. :hyper: I'm treating with quick cure ick stuff (seems to work good but WATCH OUT for secondary infections), pimafix and melafix. Any help, recommendations, anything would be appreciated. We had this happen because we didn't quarantine. My word of advice for today is quarantine all new fish for 2 weeks. It will save you fish. :-( I forgot to mention that he's swimming around in circles now.

sorry about the state of things. I dont think there is much else to do right now. By the sound of it you have 3 meds in the tanks now any more may have a damaging effect on all the fish. If you can isolate the barb you could try some fungus med on it but otherwise i dont know if it is wise to add any more meds to the tank. Hope things improve for you soon.

Pimafix is supose to be an antifungal, and melafix is an antibiotic. Neither of which treat ick, so the quick cure is being used. None of these 3 products can do the job of the other, anyone hae any alternatives to what I'm doing?

Try getting the fish some buddies, I've seen so many times where a schooling fish will just croak at work because its the last fish in the tank and it gets so stressed out because it cant find anyone to school with.

First off the fish in question died late last night. Second, he has 2 buddies that have survived him. This desease is only killing the new fish that I bought...

I've actually heard that melafix helps with fungus even if it is supposed to be antibacterial.

Anyhoo... Try to get the fish in a separate tank if you can, and avoid using many meds. In any case, the best thing to do is probably to get him out of the tank and away from the other fish. Unless, of course, the other fish all have it too...

What are you using the melafix for? I would personally wait until the ich and fungus is gone to use melafix, if it's just to treat any infections they might get from having that stuff.

All of my fish have died. I'm down to 4 plecos, a black ghost knife(not looking too hot), a mickey mouse, a upside down catfish, 2 opaline gouramis(1 ain't looking too hot), a red zebra, an oscar and a jack dempsey for 2 huge tanks and a 20G. Too many propor burials... All 3 tinfoils, all 3 clown loaches, all of them dead... Bummer. :byebye:
