bought a small blue jack the other day to put in my aquarium with my small oscar. The aquarium is 75g. I first put him in my hospital tank that was cycled 2 months ago. The only resident is a paradise gourami. I noticed about an hour ago that he was swimming erratically and breathing heavily. I tested the water and the Nitrates are 20, nitrites were 5.0ppm. Ammonia is 0.

I tested the water the other day and it was fine. I took him out of the hospital tank and placed him in a breeder net in the 75g tank. (he is 2.5 inches).

What else can I do to save him? I put an airstone in with him (thought it couldn't hurt). He was expensive and I don't want to loose him.

Right now he is breathing heavy on his side in the breeder net,

Thanks
Ray

It could be the nitrites. I suggest you do water changes everyday to help get the nitrites down or you could lose your Oscar as well. I am not sure if there is anything else you can do for your dempsey. I hope he makes it.

Looks like he is fine now....good thing I checked on him when I did.

After large water change (50%) replenished with water from my 75g tank, nitrites are at 0.5 and nitates are at 5ppm.
