I just joined the forum and need some fish identified. If you don't mind, I'd appreciate someone taking a look at my gallery and telling me what the names of the fish are that I've given generic names (there are only three like this). These were taken at a local aquarium, and I failed to write down the names.

Thanks,

 Your pics are fabulous JohnT, really gorgeous. And the fish are stunning - sorry I can't help id them either, but maybe if you posted in the saltwater section, you may have more luck. That leafy sea dragon was just gobsmacking!!

And welcome to the forum. :hi:

OK I'm going for the one that you have labeled as 'fish' is a surgeonfish.

'fish and anenome' could be an anthia.

'big fish' look like groupers

i'll google and see if i can find them!

I don't think this one is right because it doesn't have the top and bottom fins and the tail is different.

Definitely looks like a type of grouper but not sure.

I think this one is some type wrasse but haven't found a pic yet.

An exact colourmatch for any fish is hard but if you look at the forms of the fish they seem to be from the same families!

The stingray is cute but you probably won't get an id since most all of them look the same from the bottom. Try posting this in the SW section (or PM a mod and have them move it). You will have a better chance of getting a correct id. Great phots though.

I believe the fish in the 'Fish and Anemone' picture is a Royal Gramma Basslet :)

Sorry, can't help with the others yet. I'll keep looking around for them, though. And also, very very nice pictures!

Edit: Perhaps the big fish could be a Napoleon Wrasse? According to the Dallas World Aquarium website it's a big fish. And you said it was a big fish....just a wild guess. :dunno:

Thank you, everyone, for the warm welcome and kind words! With your help, I've determined the type of all but one fish. I'll post in the sw forum to see what happens.

Thanks again,
John

fish is an adult male vlamingi tang (naso vlamingi)

fish with anemone looks like a royal gramma

big fish looks like a grouper, but not sure of exact type.

edit - it IS a napolean wrasse - just google and click on images to confirm.

Congradulations on correctly IDing the royal gremma basslet Anna. Unfortunately, I can't get any of the pics to load, shame, they look nice form the thumb nails.

no, really - it IS a napolean wrasse - and it is BIG.

definately not a blue line grouper (I have one).

anyway, how come I don't get congratulations for the vlamingi OPCN?
I'm off to sulk in a corner somewhere. :byebye:
