Hi all,

Bought as pair of catfish as Armoured cats. Thought i had id-ed them with cfc but turned out something else.

Pics are at the end of this thread.

Sort of dusty lime with dark striped and a black spot on each side behind the eyes.

About 2" long each.

Cheers

DG

No pics there mate, are they not armoured cats then?

Hi m8,

Go to the last oage and they are the last 4 pics.

According to the shop they are armoured cats, but look completely different to the once we were looking at the other day.

Deffinately not armoured cats, they are one of the Mystus species of asian catfish, probably Mystus vittatus.
Nice little cats that only get to around 8" but the down side is they are ferocious predators so your fry will be lunch, can look after themselves too if the mbuna get nasty but o the bright side they are diurnal so you will see pleanty of them.

U think i was overcharged as they were labled wrong?

I reckon they look better than the armoured cats though :)

Bought a male crabro at the same time. Poor thing is getting the carp kick out of him. Had to seperate him :(

How much did you pay again?I would have expected to pay between 6 and 7 quid each for them.
Still a nice little find, asian cats dont get imported as often as their SA cousins so are quite rare to see in fish shops, many places dont stock them because they dont fit into normal community tanks either due to their predatory nature.

15 notes for the pair. One is still hiding, the other ventures out at feeding time.

Oh yeah cfc - i went down iver, and they have those armoured cats quiet often. Might be worth your while taking a trip down there.

CFC - i went back down to funky fish to swap my crabro. I told the guy that they have mislabled the fish and are selling people the wrong thing. The guy didnt give a dam!! He wasnt interested in the fact that he is telling people these fish are armoured cats which are nice and friendly, but are really aggresive smaller fish eaters. (btw as they are getting used to my tank, one of them is chasing my malawi. Luckily they can take care of themselves).

I had written the scientific name and the fish's attribute on a bit of paper but he wasnt interested.

Not good :(

Could be,i was going on the position of the eyes, pims tend to have their eyes positioned more towareds the top of their heads where as the mystus cats have their eyes lower down,if they are 4 lined pims then they were a real bargain, rare to see them here in the UK and normally at least £20 each.
DG is there any chance of a good close up pic so we can ID them properly?

Soon as my camera batteries charge up, i'll take some closeups as they both come out now. Looking at them, their eyes are in the centre i'd say. And they have a sort of bulging belly if that help.

You guys for a pic of this 4-lined pim? I cant find one anywhere to have a look.

I just tried planet catfish and i couldnt find one there,my books are a blank on pics too, have to see what impur comes up with.
