Hi, i haven't a clue what he is and am wondering if any of you wonderful fishy experts could ID him for me please. He's grown to almost 12 inches so far, thats from about 10-10 half inches when i first got him and is in alot better condition aswell, he looks pretty patchy in these pics but they are from when i first got him, trying to get a fresh pic of him now if he would only stay around the front of the tank :S Oh, and he has the most fantastic fin on his back, it's really high and the only thing i can liken it to is a sailfin mollies fin, it really is spectacular what he raises it.

its one of the commons, probs P.pardalis
Oooh, i've looked at loads of pictures of plecs and could never liken one to him, looking at pics of the pleco you mentioned even they don't seem quite the same, but i am thinking that they may have been juveniles i was looking at.
I'm guessing with him being a common plec that it is less likely that people would want to rehome him?
As he is tearing up plants in the tank like theres no tomorrow, that big old tail of his just keeps swiping everything out of his way.

Finally found a pic of that is exact same, http://www.gsas.org/Gallery/pleco.jpg
He's a match for that and he is a Pardalis, i think i am definetly going to have to find a new homw for him, i have a Juwel Delta 150, and i just don't think it's big enough for him with my other fish in there.Plus upon readin some other peoples posts about these type of plecs, i see they can do some unintentional damage now and again, and i have been noticing scrapes on my large silver striped angel, which i now suspect have come from him.Is it likely they could have?

yep its definitely one of the common species, all of which differ very slightly,
They are a clumsy fish which can become territorial although i don't personally think one could cause scrapes on another fish, i'd say that would more likely be due to the angel catching itself on an object in the tank.
And yes bigger fish are always harder to rehome, all you can do is advertise as much as you can and hope that someone can give it a good home even if its for free

Thanks :good:

My rehoming problem has just been solved, friend of my dads recently gave his massive tank to a place where disadvantaged kids go for some respite, told my dad about my predicament and few phone calls later and pleco will soon be winging his way there, to live in a seven foot tank :hyper:
with tons of space for him, wonder how much more he'll grow in there lol.I only have one problem now, theres no way i am gettin that bleeder out of the tank, his spikes are lethal and he scares the beejeezus out of me when he goes of on one  .So the people that run the centre are going to catch and collect hehehe, hope they don't freak out easily, plecs a big boy and he knows how to throw his weight.
Can you tell i'm excited about his new home rofl. :yahoo:

Great news on the rehoming :good:

As for catching it just put your hand in and pick it up, :hyper:
thats what i had to do the other day when a customer brought in a 19 inch Gibbiceps into the store and there was no way a net would have been big enough to move it,
