Just got a 150 US gal corner tank with a 100 US gal sump. Tank was used as a salt water reef display. I will be using it to house my one common goldfish, two fantails, and a pair of blood parrots. I know, unusual combination, but they have all been together for two years now and get along just fine. They are all growing at the same rate, but at some point the common will far outgrow the others. I need help with selecting substrate. Sand or pea gravel would be my first two choices but with the tank on the cabinet, it is almost 6' tall. This will make gravel vacuuming somewhat problematic. Thinking of using an undergravel jet system to keep debris from accumulating on the substrate, but the sump uses a weir for the intake side. This will only skim the surface of the water and may not capture the debris kicked up by the UGJ. The other problem is the lighting. The reflector now has 110 watts of daylight bulbs and 110 watts of actinic blue bulbs which thou good for reefs, may be excessive for these fish. Probably will not be able to maintain much plant material in the tank as these fish tend to redecorate quite often. Could someone recommend the proper wattage and spectrum for this tank. (30 inch water depth) Also, any ideas on the UGJ would be helpful.
