Need Advice please on Corydoras

Hi Folks,

I got 6 Bronze corys about 4 days ago and i was quaranteening them but in mean time they have laid eggs i have taken them out but the eggs have hatched and i noticed fry in tank unfortunately i wasnt actually breeding but im just wondering if anyone has advice as i have no food ready is there anything you could advise me on, thanks.

Depending on when they hatched you might have some time to go to your local fish store or order from Amazon. Cory fry don’t eat for the first 2 or 3 days while they’re still absorbing their yolk sac.

I’ve successfully raised fry alternating Hikari’s First Bites and frozen baby brine shrimp. In a pinch you could try grinding up a sinking wafer of some kind into almost dust like pieces that the fry would be able to eat. I used a turkey baster to deposit the food on the bottom of the tank where the fry are hanging out. That helps get more food to them without putting so much in because it’s easy to foul up the water otherwise. Aim to feed at least twice a day (3 times is better) once they start eating.

I’ve heard of the Liquifry but haven’t used it before myself. Just to be clear, it is baby brine shrimp you would use. Regular size brine shrimp would be too big for them to eat.

First food

This most probably has been done before but here goes again. The best possible first food for egg layers especially gouramis and tetras etc is boiled egg yolk. First hard boil an egg, take only the yolk, put into a piece of cotton cloth like a handkerchief . Push it through into the tank. You...

Boiled egg yolk pushed through a handkerchief into a small container of dechlorinated water. Shake it up and then use an eye dropper to add some of the solution to the fry tank 3-5 times a day. See below for more detailed information on this.

EMERGENCY FRY FOOD
Some fry like labyrinth fry (Bettas & Gouramis) and Iriatherina werneri are very small when they first hatch and need green water or infusoria. If you can't get these you can hard boil an egg. Remove the shell and white part. Push the yellow yolk through a handkerchief into a small container of dechlorinated water. Put the lid on the container and shake it up, then use an eye dropper to suck some of the egg yolk solution out and put it in the tank with the babies. Do this 3-5 times per day for the first 2 weeks then start adding newly hatched brineshrimp.

Boil another egg each day and make a new solution each day. Keep the solution in the fridge when not using it. Take the solution out of the fridge and let it warm up to room temperature for 10 minutes or so before using it in the fry tank.

Do regular partial water changes on the fry tank or have a small air operated sponge filter in it to keep the water clean. The egg yolk can cause ammonia levels to go up and without water changes or a filter the fry will die from polluted water.

Dont use the Liquifry, Its messy & leaves an greasy film everywhere. So you will need to clean all the time.
I have used all of the Liquifry for different species & have never been impressed with any. Just messy in my opinion
