I took a fall the other day and have grazed my hands pretty bad so I'm unable to walk or play with my dog at the moment and he is starting to get very restless. I feel really bad as I'm unable to give him the attention that he needs, He has all his chews etc but its just not enough for him and of course I cant play any games like tug with the rope or even fetch at the moment. I just dont know what to do as he is getting to the stage where he wont leave me alone and is jumping up, mouthing me and just generally trying to do anything he can to get me to play. My temper is getting short and its not fair on him. I've hopefully got my friend coming up tonight so we can go for a walk which might help. I did have a lazer pen but the batteries have died and the shops around dont sell them and cant get to town til the wkend.

Any tips are greatly received.

awww sorry to hear that, hope your ok

all i can suggest is try and adapt your games to being armchair based, if your sat down could you throw a toy across the room for him and play fetch like that? if your hands are that bad maybe wearing gloves (maybe rubber ones) would mean you can do things without hurting yourself.

a good long walk will hopefully tire him out a bit and calm him down. do you have any friends with doggies you could maybe get them to bring doggies over so he's someone to play with?

if you really feel you can't give him what he needs at the moment then maybe put him into kennels for a day or two if you have a good one that will give him the attention he needs.

your in leeds aren't you? if your still bad in a few days and struggling we could possibly come and take him out for a walk for you or play with him for a bit if you like? me and ian both love dogs. what sort is he?

I cant even get gloves on at the moment anything that touches it really hurts it I have to get my boyf to brush hair at the mo as I cant quite grip the hairbrush properly (it's driving me nuts) Fetch games sat in a chair are out as I cant get hold of the toys without knocking the graze or risking getting his drool into the wound. I feel so useless at the mo esp with the problem being grazes (bet I sound like such a wus)

Unfortunately Ty doesnt really have any doggy friends nearby at the moment as his main companions are on holiday. And I dont think I'd feel right having him put in kennels

Hope you feel better soon you don't sound in such a good way. Have you ever tried the KONGS they are rubber thingies you can buy small, medium or large and you fill them with things and your dog has to work to get his treats, my two love them and they spend hours I do mean hours and don't get bored either it's also good or their teeth and they actually have to work for their treats. I fill with dog choccie buttons, peanut butter, jam, ham, chicken, broken pieces of dog biscuits anything thats going, I mix the things up so one minute they are eating dog biscuits to get to the choc :hey: they love peanut butter too :good: Hope you get better soon.

aww i am sorry to hear that. if your still stuck in a day or so give me a shout me and ian can come and walk him and play for a bit, wear him out for you. :)

If someone doesnt mind the mess a good thing is to get a box some newspaper and some smelly treats put the scrunched up newspaper and treats in the box and tape it up the dog has to destroy the box to get to everything and we all know how much gdogs love destroying things!
Also the kong is a genius idea that all dogs love

babybell911: You've given me an idea instead of the box I might use the box idea, unfortunately with Ty no matter how I stuff a kong (which is currently awol) it never takes him long to empty it.

Miss Wiggle: Thanks for the offer, I'd feel bad borrowing Ian especially across Leeds like that. I've managed to rope my friend into taking him out for me. Last night I even managed a quick game of fetch with a bit of pizzle, upon Ty's insistance that I played luckily it didnt touch my hands, although he tried for a game of tug with rope but I couldnt manage that so he started on my dad which was quite funny to see.

I'm going to have to improvise some games too for when I'm off on maternity leave.

Also does anyone know of anything that helps to calm dogs down that you can buy in the UK? As Ty can be quite giddy when certain people come round and I have a feeling he'll be the same when I've had the baby. I was thinking of speaking to my vet about a sedative but I think that might be a bit on the extreme side if there are other products out there that might work without having him drugged.

no problem, offer will stay open though if you change your mind :)

:/ Are you Ok Natsuko?? Didn't hurt your belly or anything have you?? How is baby, still kicking like mad?? You have to be so careful when you're preggers. I did some cleaning with my first and hit myself hard in the belly with a dining chair. Then weeks later fell onto my belly hard while washing the floor (on my hands and knees). Second pregnancy I was extra careful. But my third, my legs would just give way anywhere and I fell quite a few times, never on my belly, thanks goodness.

Mind you, those placentas are strong, keep baby nice and snug and safe.

Hope you feel much better, very, very soon. Hope Ty gets all the exercise he needs.

And I am so looking forward to your little mans arrival!!!

:flowers:

AlexandCarmen: Thanks for the well wishes, Morgan is fine, took a trip to A/E straight after the fall (upon boyfs insistance and his sisters), For all the hours we were there Morgan didnt move at all, the doctors in A/E couldnt find heartbeat with stethoscope (spelling) and didnt have proper equipment in dept, got sent up to the delivery suite for monitoring and no sooner did they hook me up to the machine he started giggling about and was very active (typical). Eventually got home at 00.45 was shattered. Needless to say I'm extra cautious now. And of course Morgan has become more active over the last couple of days.

I've got a couple of days off work coming up so I'm hoping to drag my friend out for some long walks with Ty. I got mad at Ty last night as he was really excited and wouldnt leave me alone and he caught my hand with his tooth so got told off. I feel so sorry for him as its not his fault. I made it up to him though as can now play fetch with my right hand as that one isnt as sore.

Betta5: I did have one of those balls along with the kong it has gone awol, probably somewhere in the garden hidden by Ty, He did like that too will hunt for them tonight (it should be light when I get home from work)

Hi Natsuko

Glad to hear that Morgan is fine. It's always such a worry. Stubborn little man already, keeping still and not moving till you got hooked up to the monitor. Get used to it, men never listen, big or small  . No matter how much you talk to them, they just ignore you.

Well, I am really pleased he is fine. You just need to recover properly so you can enjoy the rest of this pregnancy. And spend some quality time with Ty before Morgan arrives.

Keep well
Carmen :D

Claming solutions i have used for my dog on firework nite are 1 teaspoon of calpol or a piriton (allergy tablet) work wonders.

I'm clearly not in the picture here, I have to have missed something critical like he's in the army or something - but why can't the boyfriend walk the dog?

SuzieQPlecMama: My boyfriend does take Ty round the block when he gets home from work but that just isnt enough for Ty. He did however take him for a walk in the woods on his own yesterday (only cos it was my bday but I cant complain) My boyfriend would prefer most nights just to sit in front of the box, which is why I drag my friend up and we end up going out for a few short walks a night. I've even managed to persuade her to do some dog sitting during the week as my dad is away on holiday so he should get some attention.

Managed to get some new batteries for lazer pen but Ty has developed a really unhealthy obsession for it and will stand and stare at wherever it is put until we give in to using it. Also found his treats ball and kong too (they were very muddy and disguisting so disinfected those in a bucket) Not got anything to stuff the kong with but he seems happy with his ball for now. I can now also hold the lead (providing he doesnt pull) which is a good thing.

Ty keeps trying to make my hands better, he is always sniffing them and trying to get me to turn them over to lick, bless him.
