ive just set up my new ND tank swapped all of the fish, heaters, filters etc etc went to put the hood on to complete the job and...............

the cut outs in the hood arent wide enough to fit my FX5 pipes side by side

i need them like this as im running 2 FX5's on the tank so i have 2 pipes at each end.

has anyone else fitted 2 FX5's on an ND tank before if so how?

i could cut the holes bigger but dont really want to but i cant see an alternative tbh

As you know i have an ND Aquatics tank aswell, and....i can only just fit one Fx5 on mine. Mine is just the glass tank on its own, with two support struts either end, with the sliders over the top. Its a tight squeeze, but i can just get inlet and outlet in each side of the tank. So i can't see how your going to manage it without cutting the slits bigger i'm afraid.

Good luck with that though Matt.

cheers James.

all sorted now i took my jigsaw to it tonight and it now fits and i didnt even ruin the hood.... :hyper:

all fitted and now the fish have light.

see keiths new tank journal for pics :good:

I too have an ND with braces and I had a bit of a game getting the Ehiem pipes to fit - had to modify the hood holes and ended up not using the shepards crook for the spay bar. Something to note - I used Tretex Hard Wax Oil on the newly cut surfaces of the hood to protect them against moisture - very easy to apply and seems to be doing a good job (I also use it to protect my kitchen surfaces so I've got a lot of confidence in it).

IMvHO the spaces allowed on my tank between the braces are too small for comfort - something that I mentioned to ND however apparently all of them are like that and I'm the only one that mentioned it so I'm putting it down to my inexperience :)

i too rang ND and they said that it should have been cut bigger to accomodate 2xFX5 filters as i told them on the phone when ordering the tank. i made the holes bigger using a jigsaw and re-siliconed the new edges with aquarium safe silicone.

i think when i order my next tank ill make sure they 100% know the situation and demand bigger holes.
