Anyone got any photos of their hoods? Tops insides and backs?

I'm looking at getting a 40x24x24 marine tank/cabinet from them, and it's going to be used double sided so the 24 side is against the wall... when out looking today I noticed pre-built cabinets at my LFS, the hoods were not complete at the back... Do ND make their hoods like this?

I could just call them (actually waiting for another email back), but pictures would be very appreciated :)

Mine will be delivered at 9 in the morning tomorrow hopefully,
will post pics up when it arrives

Thanks for the pics - I had received some from ND recently - lucky I did as I realised that I didn't want them to drill access holes in the "back" of the lid (since my back is the short side).

I have a tank on order now :) though seeing others pics is still nice :)

Make sure they listen to you!
sent my tank with the wrong handles and i asked them if an fx5 would fit in the cabinet they said yes and it doesnt,
anyway still really happy with the tank dont think you can get better for the money

Steve

The cabinets which nd make are really good, Any questions ask John,They have all or most of the info at hand and if you go for the 4 door unit you may have difficulties getting things in and out as Steve said. Also you may need to find out what the back of the cabinet in finish looks like especially if it's going to be side on. Maybe you can get a set of doors put on the back so it looks in keeping with the front if you know what I mean. I have been to there workshop and seen how good they work, and with John nothing seems to be too much trouble. When the tank gets delivered make sure that you have plenty of helping hands to carry the thing in because there will only be the driver to help you get it into place and set it up.ps Have you thought about how your going to get the sump tank in yet ??

Details like that I have in email clearly laid out.

The tank cabinet back will be against the back of my computer desk - so the back finish won't matter, neither will access holes in the cabinet but I'm going to check to see if they can omit them too as I will only need electrical access and I can sort that in the position I want - in line with the weir.

I already made sure no access holes will be put into the hood, I decided I will do this myself and I don't need pipe work going in as it's a Marine tank with the base drilled.

I kind of assume the sump will "just fit" seeing as it is being built by them for the unit :/ or am I missing something? (remembering I am going for a marine setup).

Im no expert so please dont shoot me down in flames, but, The tank needs to be able to breath otherwise the gasses which have risen up get caught up and recycled. Thats why a lot of the tanks today have an open hood. You might be best to hold back on this one until a little more info is gathered. Otherwise check out a Marine Site. Sorry 4 vague info. Hate to think you have got it wrong.

I was relying on ND to "get it right" considering they are building the sump to a size they assume to be right. - what did you mean by fit? Did you think I wanted a sump in a "tropical" cabinet?

The option was for open or closed hood - of which I need closed because of cats etc. Added to which they include "cover glasses" too - if it was that much of a problem I would kind of hope ND would know and wouldn't include something like this (cover glass) and/or have the open hood as the default option.

From looking at the pics of the tropical tank above - they have vents on the top. Even if this gas issue was a problem I could always just install duct fans in the top vent positions (which I might do after time depending on later lighting decisions).

I got an email today and John is going to give me a call next week about something - so unless anyone says anything else I might raise it with him, but im not sure it's a problem.

Sorry M8, a picture tells a thousand words.. I thought that you were going to have the tank positioned like a breakfast bar, so you could walk round it, having it that way you would have been able to see the open back which might have looked odd, Sumps in tropical tanks are becoming more and more common,Its like a canister filter turned on it's side . A problem might have occoured if you would have wanted ND to (as I assumed ) build the cabinet with doors on both sides. Then you might have not been able to remove the sump. A few aquarium builders have open hoods one builder told me its to vent the gasses from the top of the water ( carbon dioxide I think ) But as you have quiet rightly said "It defeats the object when there is a glass plate covering it .Ive also been looking for second aquarium and that's probably why I reacted like I did. I just didn't want you to get it wrong, but there's no chance of that it looks like you have covered all the angles Ive been busy gathering up all the different info for a very long time now. And at last my wife has finally seen a cabinet which she likes ( thank God.. I never thought the day would come ) So there's just one or two points for me to sort out then bingo. So please accept my apologies for misunderstanding you on the design of your cabinet. Cheers Salty P.

I realised that people might confuse that after I explained the "breakfast bar" layout.

In my set up journal - I did a diqgram.

I'm not sure about how open it needs to be for gas exchange, this is why we use surface agitation? Although hopefully the filters (and sumps) will help with this.

Open top is good for cooling if you have hot weather, or hot lights... I got myself a "closed" lid as I know I can always open it up myself at a later date if I was really that desperate.
