i saw some corys at lfs and after looking them up they are either nanus or napoensis. these look very similar fish and was wondering if anyone could let me know the differences as im very tempted to go get some and wanted to do a bit of research before gettimg them....
possibly one for Frank.....!!!!!!!!
also if anyone can help with the research like tank temp etc it would be very welcomed..... :good:

Almost impossible to relate descriptive differences and not much easier with pictures, as they are both quite variable species. Unless you know the collection point, you just can't be 100% sure which fish you have as you will need to add C. bilineatus to the mix. If anyone other than Ian thinks they can ID that group, my hat is off to them. I will make no such claim and I have kept all of them. - Frank

thanks Frank, seems a bit hit and miss then as to what they are... ill ask where they got them imported from to see if that will narrow it down slightly! i know they have a peru shipment now and then but then i guess most lfs do.....
have you ever had any luck breeding any of them? my guess is you have ;)

C. elegans and C. bilineatus, yes. I have never kept C. nanus. The whole Elegans group are not favorites of mine. - Frank

hmmm, i see what you mean about adding the bilineatus into the mix.... all 3 are very similar!

Oh dear best of luck identifying them!!!
looks like its going to be too much of a mission.........

i think ill wait until i get some black shultzei and see if i still have the room for any! i would rather know 100% what i have. they are nice looking corys though whatever they are
