my ten gallon nano is collapsing down in a spiral. im so mad because i dont knoow if the live rock is bad or something else. this green hair algea is every where and my damsel died a couple of weeks ago. the tank has been set up for about 2 months now and i run a wisper junior with a poly bag, and a 10000k 18 watt light. any suggestions as to how i can get tha tank cleaned up and ready for fish again?

Well u werent too specific, but if u think the algae is a problem, then remove every last bit of it otherwise if will return. Um, make sure to test everything and make sure theres no ammonia nitrites nitrates etc. for a week in a row at least b4 introducing more life. Did anything else die? How long did u have the damsel? Sometimes, theyre treated like dirt because theyre supposedly really hardy, and r sold really cheap. Shipping conditions are sometimes horrible and can have an effect a long while after the incident, even if in good water conditions right after being shipped. I had this happen with superb water conditions, and it was just because the yellowtails were shipped carelessly 12 to a bag and unfortunately nothing could have saved him after that.

Boom Sage....nanos are tough in start up. Parker313 has a lot of experience with hair algae. First off, to get help to you we need the following:
-paramerts, s.g
-what kind of water...frequency of changes
-feeding? what? how often?

As much info as you can supply will be helpful.

Plus any list of inverts and critters youve employed in the clean up/removal of algae would be good. :)

The only way I was able to get rid of the hair algae was with very consistent, once a week 10-20% water changes and a special formulation I got from my LFS. It's basically a freshwater phosphate remover that they went back to the company and asked them to make it reef safe. Unfortunately, it's not available in stores...

I also have a skimmer which helps remove excess nutrients which the hair algae thrives on.
