for a 10 gallon nano

2 Clown Fish (like Nemo, whatever species that is)
2 Coral Banded Shrimp
and a snail or two

10 lb. Live Rock
Sand bottom
eventually Coral will be put in

will this setup be ok?

yep, that set up will be good, You just cant add anymore fish after that. But you can stock with hermit crabs and other corals such as feather dusters, sycrophyton and button mushrooms.

I have the same set up, cept with 2 peppermint shrimps.

I think you could be pushing it a little with the clowns, what about firefish or gobies? much more better suited. I would also choose another type of shrimp, coral banded or boxers should be kept alone, unless theyre a true pair, or you have a big tank. Better would be a skink cleaner, as these do a great job, or some sexy shrimps, theyre stunning little shrimps.
TDD (im lazy) is right about the corals, you want simple easy corals that dont need the expensive or more important for your tank! high heat halides, they can do ok with T5's.

then i'll get one clown....i'm getting at least one....
i was hoping id be able to get the banded shrimp cause he looks cool....
what about flounder?

the coral banded shrimp will kill each other-one to a tank.
and I agree that you are pushing it, I would go with the
one clown. a ten gallon tank is very small, add to that the
displacement of 10 pounds of rock and sand, and you have roughly
6-7 gallons of water-not a lot for a fish!

I think brackish flounders are the only ones small enought to fit in a 10 gallon, I would also recomend getting apercula instead of an occesarus (sp?) they grow to 3 inches instead of 4 and have thicker black lies and clear on the edges of there pectoral and caual fins, more importantly they arent as active.

Two percula clowns would be ok depending on the dimensions of the tank, one will not work as they are social fish :) You will also need to look at getting a 'home' for them too - Not a Anenome!, something like a leather mushroom.

I would advise against the Boxer shrimp (Coral-banded shrimp) as they will fight till one survives (unless they are an established pair) and even with one it will dominate your tank (I had one, it is now in my main tank) as their feelers make the shrimp about 6" - 8"

Flounders require an open sand bottom, something in short supply in a 10g Nano ;)

Firefish and Gobies are ideal Nano fish, and if you haven't already, check out LiveAquaria's Nano fish section here for some ideas on what's around.

I have a 10g Nano-reef with 1 x Splendid Leopard Wrasse, 1 x Red-headed Goby, 3 x Sexy Shrimps (+ cleanup crews) and that's pretty much fully stocked, I might get a firefish - not sure yet.

At risk of sounding like a jerk, it frightens me anytime I hear someone talking about a ten gallon tank with the cast of nemo and the little mermaid crammed into it. Please do your reading and know what you are getting into, the tank you want to keep is an expert only tank.

Ramjet, we all know keeping a nemo etc etc in a 10gallon and smaller is bad, so we are here to help inexperienced ppl realise what the are embarking on. Not to make critical remakrs. And instead of critising this person for not researching, or being unhelpful, evryone above has streared him in the right direction.

I think, to add, that it shows a willingness to learn when someone ASKS as xrenegadex has done so.

I like the combo of a clown and a firefish, as you can tell from my siggy :p I don't have any shrimp, just the fish (the green clown goby maxes out at 1.5") and my hermits and snails.

I have a 10 gallon nano which I have had running for about 6mths now and all is well. Luckily I got some great advice from this forum. I currently have a nemo, blue damsel and 4 snails and 2 crabs with live rock. I was lucky enough to have 8 corals (feather dusters) attached to the LR. I have 7.6lbs in there right now and will add a bit more.--I definatly think it would be ok for the nano.

I, too, have been considering starting a 10 gallon nano. I am hesitant, though, because I would want it for my classroom, and I'm not sure that's the best place for it to be (considering the maintainance).

I think it would be fine in a classroom. The daily maintenance doesn't have to be all that time consuming, especially once you get a routine down. Sometimes, if it's a busy time for me, I don't do much except FW top offs between water changes!

I dont think it would be fine in a classroom, maybe if you put a lock on the top, otherwise the tank in my advanced class, top students in the school, were throwing stuff into the 55 gallon my teacher has. He ended up puting a top on and taking the goldfish home.
Nemo is ethier a true percula clownfish, or a ocellaris clownfish. The ocellaris stays orange, often also called the false percula. The true percula gets more black over time as it ages. Its bans thicken.
