My roomate got these as "goldfish", but they aren't normal goldfish. I have seen these come in before when I worked at some fish stores a while ago, but never figured out exactly what they were. You can see there is some darkness on the head directly between the eyes, and the marking doesn't vary from fish to fish. Thanks for the correct id if you can get it for me.

I believe that most probably could be a rosey feeder. You could get them at Wally world for 19 cents.

THose look like minnows to me. I had some for a while. Got em at petco. Anyone agree??

I still say it looks like a rosey more than anything else :p

These are "rosey reds". I don't know the scientific name, but Jesse was right - you can get them at Wal-Mart or pretty much any lfs very cheaply. They are used as feeders.

People call them tuffies, rosies, or feeder goldfish. But no matter what you call them, they are a threat to any aquarium you put them in. They are kept in horrible conditions, and carry several diseases. I don't think these are good fish for any aquarium or for the use of feeders. They shouldn't be kept in the conditions they are, and they shouldn't be mistreated, but the only way we can stop this is to not buy them.
