I picked up some corys from Big Als (which, is the coolest store ever) and they were labeled as "Fancy Cory Cat" or something like that. Anyway, they look suspiciously like Julii corys, but I would like to ask you all what you think... :good:

Here it is!

It's a little pale from being put into the tank.

to tell you the truth, I have no idea. But as you said how it's gone a little pale if some of the markings became a bit more bolder It would look a bit similar to a reticulatus. Maybe C. Reticulatus?

I don't know if it is a Reticulatus, because Reticulatus lacks the line down the body, plus the markings on the face are different.

I don't believe it's an armatus because there is no band across the eye in the mystery cory, yet the black blotch which is apparent on the mystery cory's dorsal cant be seen on the armatus

For me it is a very pale C. Reticulatus, the black lines are visable that run along the bottom edge of the body between the pelvic and anal fins also the skull shape is right with the slight dip above the eyes.

I would be worried as to why it is so pale though.

This might sound stupid: but to me it looks like what would be a hybrid of C. Julii, and a Peppered Cory. I havn't got a clue whether different species mate, I imagine tehy probably don't, but if they did, that's exactly what I'd imagine the offspring looking like!

The picture was taken about 5 mins after puting him in the tank.

I'll take a picture tomorrow, so you all can see him in his true colors. :)

I saw this pic and checked up in one of our books. Thought I recognised him.

Could he be an Elegant Corydoras (corydoras elegans)?

Quite a large eye, high squared off dorsal fin, darker on top of his head.

puppyduck.. that cory you posted is actually a corydora sodalis...

and invaderwithkey it is either a corydoras reticulatus or sodalis with a washed out pattern.. hard to tell as the pattern is a little washed out and the only real difference is reticulatus has a spot on the dorsil fin and sodalis has two black streaks

I agree with Frank. But i see that the cory in question has a black dot on his dorsal fin. Could just mean he has genes of another type aswell??
