Hi all.

I bought myself 8 Neon Tetra and a 2" Atya (Vampire) Shrimp today. I was advised by my LFS to add a half dose (2ml) of Myxazin treatment, to prevent any unwanted bacteria from the new fish attacking what I have in the tank already. After reading up on the shrimp a bit more, apparently they dont do well with dyed bacterial treatments.

Will he be OK? I would like to still try and treat the water to prevent anything from attacking my other fish, but I dont want to kill my new shrimp! Or am I just wasting my time anyway?

Thanks.

if it aint broke don't fix it. unless your fish are actually ill don't medicate the tank at all. can't get my head around that little gem of advice from the LFS - I'd suggest you ignore it completely and don't add any Myaxin at all!

I hope your tank is at least six months mature for those Cameroon Fan Shrimp... They have been on my wanted listed for ages, but I have held off buying them until at least the end of September, as they need very stable tank conditions and plenty of "micro food bits" to catch in their filter limbs.

I would also not risk any copper based meds with these or any other shrimp. Now you have these critters, you definitely need a QT tank if you do not have one already, so fish can be treated with Myxazin/Protozin etc. away from your shriimp.
