I added a mystery snail to my small (2 gallon) fish tank to help keep in clean. It looks like he is sick- his shell has white spots (looks like its' thinning or deteriorating). I put in some spinach but he wasn't interested in it at all (even when I placed him on top of it). He also has red dots on the inside of his mantle if that indicates anything. He's still pretty active and spends a lot of time just hanging out around the top of the fishtank.

snails are actually an easier critter to keep healty. red dots are normal mine have them too they are snail freckles no worries there.
as for the spots on the shell i would algae does cling to there shells infact smaller snails nerite snails usally climb up and clean my shells. what i would do if you are concerned about the spots on the shell is take him out use a small soft (i mean soft) never used before tooth bush and lightly scrub the algae off the shells.
as for the thin shell hard water can do this calcium supplements (i take calcium vitmins and and crush up a small amount and add a little bit to the filter. this will help the snails thicken there shells. cuttlebone will help too.
also you snail might be happier in a larger tank too. mystery snails can get very big so a 2 gallon can be a wee bit small.

anyways good luck. oh brocilli is also a good thing too that they like as well.

Would adding a bit of cuttlebone adversely effect an ACF? I have some snails in with him, and they're having issues with thinning and deteriorating shells, too.
