I set up my little 10 gallon tank that has been in storage forever and decided to put some life in it. I first put the water in there, ran the two little cheapo "aqua-tech 5-15" HOB filters (because they are small enough to be dead silent, yet circulate and filter adequately), put some sand and a piece of driftwood in there, and then some plants and 4 mystery snails. One is gold, another ivory, another one blue, and the other one is black.
Here is the strange part. The black one burrows into the sand, or stays halfway down in it. When he's almost fully buried himself, he sticks his breathing tube out into the water.
I thought that breathing tube was something they used for air. I know they hybernate in the mud when the swamp (or whatever) dries up in the dry season so that's why they burrow and have trap doors (to keep the moisture in) and breathing tubes (as well as being able to breathe under water). But again, I've never seen one do this where there is plenty of water in the tank.
Is this ok or is my snail confusaled?
