Alrighty, so we just got back from our LFS, and in one of their tanks, they had this really BIG shrimp.
It looked just like a ghost shrimp, except that it was at least 3x the size of one.
Didn't see any kind of pincers on it... just curious what kind of shrimp it might've been.

Big + looks like a ghost shrimp= Macrobrachium species...but they all have obvious claws.

Big + no claws = fan shrimp...but they don't look like ghost shrimp.

Maybe it was a Macrobrachium sp. that had lost it's claws?

*shrugs*
Def doesn't look like ay fan shrimp.
So the first one is most likely.
I did look for the claws but didn't see any. I guess I could've overlooked them though if they were smaller or something.

I dunno... it just came as a surprise seeing this big ole shrimp in one of their fishtanks lol. They didn't have it listed for sale or anything so yeah, I'm sure they probably thought it was just a ghost shrimp as well.

How big is BIG? Could it have been a female Amano shrimp?

It was about 3 inches long. Well that doesn't seem so big saying it lol.... but it was definitely a LOT bigger than a regular ghost shrimp. It looked just like an oversized ghost shrimp. From what I remember, it didn't have any coloring or spots or anything.
We did get a pic of it on hubby's phone but SOMEONE *glares* didn't save it.

Dernit, this is gonna bother me. I was going to ask the employee about it but totally forgot while we were there.... SIGH

im pretty positive its a whisker shrimp. I saw a whiskewr shrimp at a fish store once and i was like, isnt that a ghost shrimp? When i asked the employees, they told me it was a baby whisker shrimp and it can grow really big.

You might be right milkton. Reading about them, looks like I may have misjudged the length of the one I saw lol.
