Someone gave me all of their tank stuff a while ago, and I have yet to figure out what this piece is - penn plax is the manufacturer, but I could not find anything on their web site.

its some kind of filter.Ive got 1 on my tank similar.The spikey lukin pipe goes over the other pipe.The bit thats sticking out from the round bottom has a sponge that goes on it.The filter put together stick to the side of the tank and an air supply is conected in the top.Thats how my filter works and it kinda looks like that.mines by a company called biofoam.Hope ive been a bit of help.

That helps - I guess I dont need it, since I have an Eclipse in the hood.

ah ha! I thought it was something like a gravel vacuum! I assume it attaches to my siphon somehow?
