I got this guy a few weeks ago. He was in with the zebra danios, obviously not one of those but the lfs didn't know what he is. I couldn't get a good picture of him, actually got this one on accident. I was snapping a pic of my fat guppy and he just happened to be in it. Anyways just curious to know if anyone knows what type of fish this thing is.

The body shape looks a bit like a rasbora vatifloris? but the colour is wrong. I don't think the fish should have the red & white mark along the body. It doesn't look normal and could be an internal parasite (worm) or something else.

A worm!!?? How creepy...how would I find out for sure?

it looks like a juvi rosy barb to me

Looks like a ghose zebra danio??

Oh by way the fat guppy isn't a guppy...its a gambusia aka mosquitofish.

Just looks like an odd female zebra danio to me, a strange colour variation with long fins.

To find out if the fish has a worm in its body, you have to kill the fish and autopsy it. Not recommended :)

The fish is not a juvenile rosy barb or zebra danio.

Perhaps do a search online for different Rasbora species. You might fins a pic of something similar.

Mosquitofish is a common name for Gambusia species. Female Gambusia look similar to wild female guppies and some species of Gambusia are real nasty. The most common species of Gambusia is Gambusia affinis or G. holbrooki. They were spread all over the world by governments and others, to help control mosquito larvae in fresh waterways. Unfortunately they don’t do much to mozzie larvae and prefer baby fish and fish eggs. They are a pest in some parts of the world.
The grey female fish (under the weird unidentified fish) might be a female Gambusia or it might be a female guppy. I haven’t seen many wild female guppies and the spots on the fins make it look a lot like a Gambusia. Perhaps start a new thread in the livebearer section (titled Guppy or Gambusia) and ask if people know whether or not the fish is a Gambusia or female Guppy. Make sure you put the picture in the thread for people to look at.

That mystery minnow is def. Zebra danio. This special strain is called Ghost zebra danios, they are recently new strains.

I'd never heard of a ghost zebra danio before, I googled it and found pics. Looks like that's what my mystery fish is :D Its kind of difficult googling for a fish when you don't know what it's called. So thanks for info!!
