Hello all. I have a fourteen gallon community tank. In the tank I have five Rummy Nose Tetras (although one has mysteriously disappeared today...), four red morph Silver-tipped Tetras, and Three assorted Cory Cats. Every morning the tetras are nearly transparent and their colour is completely washed out. The red on the rummies will completely disappear. the colour almost always return by evening to the rummies, but the silver-tips stay rather pale. I've asked at all the local pet stores and they have no ideas. I m growing concerned because they are fairly expensive fish, and they are obviously unhappy.
They have been in the tank for nearly a month. The water tests fine for nitrites and such, and the pH is some where in the 8 range (I realize they thrive in 6.0, but where I live has extremely hard water and it's a miracle I got it down that far.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions of what might be wrong and what I can do to help?
-Update-
I was searching for the missing Rummy (RIP) and I found some odd growth on the inside of one of the decorations. After removing the decor, the fish perked up and were healthy the next morning.
I never did find the rummy, I wonder if the growth ate him....
