My danio seems distressed. He was in a 20g with other danio, guppies, snails and gourami. He would stay in literally one spot. He also seems to have somewhat of what appears to be the equivalent of a dog having their hair stand on their back.

So I put him in a hospital tank and immediately dosed with salt and rapid cure.

Any ideas?

Sadly, she is in a fairly advanced kidney failure, and is no longer able to maintain a balance between water in and outside her body, There can be many causes for what is usually caused dropsy, and there is no one cure.

So what do I do?

And how do you diagnose it?

Pineconing scales are the main diagnostic point. It's often old age, poor water quality (not enough water changes) and overcrowding, or just one of those things.

I had one fish that stayed about where yours is for quite a few months, and seemed to get back to almost normal. But most of the time it progresses quickly and the fish dies.
