I thought my male imbellis was acting kinda funny today... he was sulking and had vertical bars (which I've never seen on a male, even during spawning). Then I realised that I didn't see the female. I looked in their cave and behind their driftwood, but still no female. That's when I saw her... dried up dead on the floor. :-(
There was literally less than an inch of open space around their filter that she could have jumped through, and now even that has been covered. I feel absolutely horrible. At least 8 of the 10 fry I saved from their spawn are still doing well...

Oh my gosh, that is my worst nightmare too! SO sorry for your loss. Don't feel bad, you had no idea she could get out. *hugs* try not to beat yourself up. I hear mothers have suicide thoughts sometimes, so maybe the same goes in fish. I am going to cover any spaces in my tanks ASAP.

That's so sad! I absolutely feel your pain...I just found one of my four-month-old babies on the floor, completely dry, the other day. It's not a good thing to find.

aww poor baby she was soo cute. :-( may she rest in peace, she is probably chasing blood worms up there

:-(

I'm so sorry for your loss... What a horrid shock for you.

Incidentally, if anyone ever finds a fish all dried up and out of the tank- it might be worth throwing them back into water for a bit, however dead they look.

When I was young my dad came into my room to tell me he was going to work, but my goldfish had died. He found him dried up on the floor. He said he had not had time to get rid of him so had thrown him back in his tank.

I was upset. By the time I got up myself and went downstairs a couple of hours later- my goldfish was alive! He was sort of looking shocked but he was moving very slowly. He made a recovery ultimately though was partially sighted till the end of his days.

I guess they can have incredible recuperative powers- then again, maybe that's just goldfish.

Oh, That is sad. I am sorry to hear that. My heart felt. I don't know the male will survive or not without her since they been together. Maybe can get another female for him. Do you know who is the breeder?
