My up setting neon horror

HI

I went to my lfs ( pets at home ) after school today ( Im 14 years old ) and got 10 neon tetras, So I got in to the car and went home.
I did not float the bag in the water for 15 mins because there wasnt much water in the bag. so I decided just to them loose they where abit scared so they hid str8 away.I went down stairs and left them for abit
when I went and turned on my fish tank light I saw 2 of my big black widow tetras with 2 neon tetras in there mouth and I saw a small black widow with the rest of a body in his mouth.

I already had 2 and they are medium size so maybe thats why they arnt getting bullyed. the new 10 are small so I went from 12 to 8 I dont know where the other 2 are maybe eaten I am so angry.

I was fumming I was so annoyed

I think this is my fish keeping bad bit we all have it I hope I dont get it agen.

Awww I'm sorry to hear that

I made the mistake a few weeks ago of putting guppy fry into my tank thinking they were big enough and found that some of the platies in there had them half in their mouths

I don't think they managed to eat them but they sure as hell scared the heck out of them and their tails were a bit tattered. I put melafix in there and they came right.

Neons seem to be so tiny when I see them in the lfs and mine that I've had for 7 months are huge in comparison so I reckon I would think twice about adding any to my tank now.

Hope the other neons are hiding nicely and grow up quickly so they can come out and play

So sorry to read about your neons, but as Joby has said we all make mistakes. The good thing is that you wont make it again and you will be careful in what you put in your tank in future, i know that i am a lot more wary in what i do add.

If you're interested in sexing your black widows (coz you sed on your gallery that you didn't know how) I've had them and have researched the net to find how to do it. Basically, the females are darker in their fins and larger than the males. their stomachs are really fat and the males are pale, a lot smaller and very flat looking. Mine were very noticeably different.
Your black widows are really pretty too. they've got reallynice long fins, where as mine just had little stumpy ones.

On the subject of your neons getting eaten, its depressing isn't it. Ive gone through soooo many. I bought 10 one day and the next day every single one of them had been eaten. I bought another 10 and put them in my little tank where they couldn't get eaten , and they just died one by one and now I've got one. yep. so I know how you feel. but good luck with them. I really like them, but can't have them coz my other fish are too big

I can relate. I put in 7 Neons last Saturday and a week later I only have 3 left. They're left alone when the lights are on but as soon as the lights go off in the evening, my angel fish starts a-hunting. I haven't lost anymore since Wednedsay though so I thknk these 3 have sussed out a good hiding place to last the rest of the week. Hopefully, they'll go the distance.

sushi and tintin thanks for the sotry at least im not on my own I dont feel as bad.

sushi about breeding my black widows nah Im taking them back to pets at home today. time 9.34am saturday 5th march so I wont have them on the 6th of march. there to dark for my liking and there bullys.
